Hi,

I believe this is a well known problem and I tried to fix it, but my solution did not work. What do I mean by that? Usually, this problem occurs when you update the kernel and you forget to run /sbin/lilo (I am using Lilo). But, here this is not the solution...

First of all I dual boot. I have XP and Gentoo. Lilo is not installed on the MBR and I did all the necessary things to set the windoes' bootloader to let me choose between XP and Linux.

So, my first question is, everytime I compile a new kernel do I need to run the command to create the linux.bin file that the windows' bootloader reads?

There is one more thing that troubles me. In the lilo.conf file I created another label to load the old kernel. Of course I run /sbin/lilo. When the system boot I chose the boot into Linux, but then I did not see the menu to let me choose which version of the kernel I want to boot.....

Any idea what else I need to do?

Thank you

MasterX,

Every time you edit lilo.conf (for any reason) you must rerun lilo then peel the lilo boot sector off the boot sector of the partition where it gets installed so that you can copy it to XP. Until you have copied the lilo boot sector to XP, you will not get to see any changes you made in lilo. Worse, depending on what you didm you may not even be able to boot linux from the hard drive. Keep a boot floppy handy.

Its a chore. grub does not suffer from this problem.

NeddySeagoon,

I was afraid of that.
Thank you
