After installing Portage I went to the next instalation step:
5.e Configure compilation options:
After I type
#nano -w /mnt/gentoo/etc/make.conf
I get several error messages like:
hdc: tray open
end_request: I/0 error, dev 16:00 (hdc), sector 1004
(Same errore for sectors: 3392, 3512, 3472, 6304, and 39588)
Bus error
Anybody can help???
Thanks

mmm... hdc is generally the CD-ROM. Which explains the "tray open" error.
So, either your machine thinks /mnt/gentoo/etc is mounted on a cd, or /mnt/gentoo/etc actually is mounted on a cd
Did you mount your gentoo partitions before untaring the stage file? There would have been a flood of errors if you didn't
Or did you somehow remove the live CD while booted from it? That would cause errors when you try to run nano, since it'd try and load the program from the CD ROM. _________________ Don't let THEM immanentize the Eschaton! |

ok, it was just my cdrom that would't read the cd anymore, but now everything is ok again.
Thank you very much for your answer
