please tell me if you have an idea on whats happening! I cannot live without Gentoo  !

Try booting it off some other boot disk and see if that works. You either have a bad boot disk or bad hardware. Memory is always suspect on a new machine. Actually, the MB could also have problems. Also try booting off some floppy to see if its just related to the cdrom drive.

I've already done all that. Floppy boots everything. The internal cdrom boots everything (except linux) , and the external USB cdrom also boots everything except linux. strange.

Have you checked the way the BIOS is setup? Maybe there's something Windows-specific in there that's hanging it up. Try turning off Plug-N-Pray. Maybe try turning the optimization down a bit. It might be that Windows is working out of a different part of memory than the Gentoo installer does. I still think it sounds like a hardware problem.

Which other linux boot cdroms have you tried? Have you tried Knoppix?

knoppix boots ok, and works ok. but all other distros dont. I tried Debian, Suse, Redhat, PLhak, fedora, and nothing.

Do an lsmod while booted on Knoppix and see how it configured your system. That will tell you what modules are needed. Then, try booting off the Gentoo disk and before you do anything else, modprobe that collection of modules.

Or else do the install of Gentoo while booted off the knoppix disk (follow the instructions as if you were booted off gentoo, then go get the tarball, etc, off the gentoo disk).

ACPI: IRQ9 SCI:Edge set to level Trigger.
there is when it freezes...

Okay, so now you know what to do: when you boot off the livecdf, when it prompts you for boot options, give it "acpi=off". I'll bet that fixes it.

Just out of curiousity, why are you using the 2004.0 livecd? 2004.1 has been out a bit now. You might try it instead. If you're using a late model board/chipsets you probably ought to use the latest livecd. Just another thought.

I've never had a livecd crash. In fact, the only time one has failed was because the BIOS was very old.
