|
|
I have a 4 port KVM switch with PS/2 connections for mouse and keyboard. When I switch between my Windows XP box and my Gentoo box (when in GUI) the mouse goes nuts on my Gentoo box. It becomes completely uncontrollable.
Even stopping and starting X again (CTRL-ALT-BKSP and startx from the prompt) does not work. I have even switched init modes from 5 to 3 and back again without success. I have to actually reboot the system to get the mouse under control.
If I switch back to Windows, all is well with the mouse (a MS PS/2 Wheelmouse). What is the deal? _________________ -----------------------------------------

This is because of the 2.6 kernel. The only solution is to limit your intellimouse to a standard 2 button mouse. if you search google groups for "KVM switch mouse problems" you'll find a ton of posts, but not a good answer. |

That sounds good, but it also happens with 2.4.21 or newer. _________________ -----------------------------------------

I use a kvm switch with my windows xp and my gentoo machine, running the 2.6.5 kernel. I have no such problems with my intelemouse explorer 2.0. im using ps/2 for keyboard and mouse.
What is your protocol set to for you mouse in your XF86Config file?
this is my mouse setup:
Code: |
Identifier "Mouse1"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2"
Option "Device" "/dev/mouse"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"

The mouse setup in xorg.conf is the same as yours except that the Protocol is "auto". _________________ -----------------------------------------

that might be the problem, auto in X doesnt work like auto in Windows set it to IMPS/2 which is the setting for IntelliMouse on the PS/2 port. with auto X simply looks for activity, if it then loses connection to the device altogeth it might cause problems, which seems to be whats happening. any way its working for me with the IMPS/2 protocol. |

did you read the user manual??
there should be a way to reset it.
for my INLAND 2-port kvm, the reset sequence is: double SCROLL-LOCK + END.
the mouse will restore to proper operation.
(maybe yours does not have a reset)
The kernel have nothing to do with this.
It's the KVM itself.
If you unpluged the keyboard/mouse when your are in a console, the kernel may not be able to detect them properly. You may need to try plug and unplug many times to have the kernel detecting it. |
