|
|
I recently bought 2 identical (BTDG02A) epox bluetooth dongles, which I'd like to use to set up a lan in between my gentoo box and my dad's notebook running WinXP.
I set up my linux puter to act as NAP with pand and it is visible from the laptop, using the software shipped by epox.
But connecting the access point fails due to security reasons (don't ask - windows says so) as the devices aren't paired.
Pairing fails with an unknown error (on windows that is ... /var/log/messages shows an entry about an incoming pairing request but no error).
I have tried putting up a connection in between two gentoo boxes and it worked right away. I was able to assign IP adresses to the interfaces and connect via ftp as well as ssh, reaching transfer rates around 50 K/s. (*HooraY*)
I have not tried to set up a connection between 2 windows boxes, since I don't have windows installed.
Now from what I hear and read, the epox software is buggy and has trouble connecting just about any device. I cannot seem to find a setting for the device's PIN in windows, so that might be a problem...
Any ideas?

Can you post your /etc/bluetooth/hcid.conf, or just the security and pin_helper lines?
Are you initiating pairing from your Windows PC or your Gentoo box? I've always found it easier to pair my iPAQ and my PC with the iPAQ initiating the pairing. However with my mobile phone it's a bit trickier as I have to attempt an rfcomm connection to my phone, which then asks me if I want to pair the devices. I can not initiate pairing from my phone (a SE Z600). This is more than likely a bug in the firmware of my phone as I didn't have this problem with my previous model (T68i).
Does the epox use the Widcomm drivers, or are they epox's custom written ones? If it uses Widcomm then it may be worth googling for some updated ones (hint: you don't necessarily have to download epox drivers). I've found that the Widcomm drivers have included a lot more functionality and got a lot more stable with every release. |

The Epox Install-CD includes the Widcomm software.
I use /etc/bluetooth/pin as pin_helper app, for I couldn't find a working helper for my amd64. It's a little bash-script, that prints "PIN:1234".
I have only tried to pair the devices from the windows machine, as I don't know how to initiate pairing from linux. This is my first contact with bluetooth and I haven't had too much time lately. I have read most howtos on holtmann.org that deal with networking but I haven't gotten to the phones or PDAs yet. It seems as though, linux-only networks with bluetooth do not require the devices to be paired at all. _________________ Nothing makes a person more productive than the last minute. |
