IMAP authentication problem

First of all, I hope this is the correct forum to post this topic.

Second, the how-to at http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/qmail-howto.xml was extremly helpful and clear for getting things up an rolling

Following these guidelines, I was able to setup my system
with qmail, vpopmail, courier. I also have qmailadmin and squirrelmail installed.

I am using Mozilla Thunderbird to access my system via secure IMAP.
Everything was going great. Then I rebooted my system last night and vpopmail no longer authenticates anyone

My /var/log/messages get entries like this:
Jun 17 06:07:21 dogbert imapd-ssl: Connection, ip=[192.168.10.101]
Jun 17 06:07:32 dogbert imapd-ssl: LOGIN FAILED, ip=[192.168.10.101]


I restarted mysql, authdaemond, courier-imapd-ssl and courier-pop3d-ssl a number of time to try to get things working.

Going back to the instructions,
# printf "postmaster@casey-sweat.us\0${PW}\0blah\0" | vchkpw
`which id` 3<&0
uid=89(vpopmail) gid=89(vpopmail)
groups=0(root),1(bin),2(daemon),3(sys),4(adm),6(disk),10(wheel),11(floppy),20(dialout),26(tape),27(video)

produces output. I can still connect to mysql vpopmail database using the
credentials in /etc/vpopmail.conf

qmailadmin still works, but squirrelmail fails at the same IMAP authentication spot (logging LOGIN FAILED to messages).

The last thing I changed was to emerge net-mail/relay-ctrl so that I could send email via SMTP over IMAP (which was working prior to the reboot).

Do you have any idea what I could have messed up, or where to start looking?

A little update:

Things started working again after I removed:
authmodulelist="${authmodulelist} relay-ctrl-allow"
as the last line of /etc/courier-imap/authdaemonrc

and restarted authdaemon.

SMTP forwarding continue to work for me, so I think I am in good shape now.
