I'm using a Yamaha yf192XG. If there is anybody using this card, I could use some assistance.
When I first attempted to get sound working, I enabled debug messages and was getting tcp_connection errors etc. I resolved the error messages. Now if I try to play a .wav file, everything appears to work, but no sound. The sound level bar in the arts control tool goes up and down just as it should.
In my X sound server applet, I have the IO set to autodetect. Should I be using a custom sound device? Are there any entries I can look for in /dev that will help me determine if something is missing?
When I do 'lsmod' this is the output. Maybe somebody could look it over for irregularities?
Yes, I have compiled the proper sound card into my kernel (snd-card-ymfpci).

hi brain,
seems like your using alsa, if it is alsa9, there is no /dev/mixer device (AFAIK) so the arts mixer might not work (I use gnome) but you could try using the alsa mixer and alsa player:
amixer set Master 80% on
amixer set PCM 80% on
aplayer /opt/path/to/a/wavfile
if you don't have them, emerge them (emerge alsa-utils I believe)
furthermore, look at the desktop guide.
