This will reduce download times, local storage requirements, and load on kernel mirrors.
Just in case you are on a broadband connection and think I'm insane, the first item is very good news for dialup users.
I have posted an ebuild on user and dev mailing lists, I can copy here if anyone is interested . . .
Feel free to take this up in the mailing lists if you don't want to post here. _________________ Worst - signature - ever. |

Do you mean this?
- Have a copy of the kernel version 2.4.0 stay somewhere (CD, HD...)
- Incrementally patch it until it reaches version 2.4.x (x>0)
- Apply the Gentoo specific patches
- End up with a current kernel
If yes, this sounds great to me! _________________ | www.gentoo.org | www.tldp.org | www.google.com | |

Yes, the kernel + patches would be placed into /usr/portage/distfiles either by you or automagically.
Help me get this int Gentoo by supporting me on the mailing lists!
If anyone can tell me how to attach a file I'll post it here, but I don't want to make a mess with cut'n'paste. _________________ Worst - signature - ever. |
