I did the emerge kde fluxbox thing last night, and this after noon, i ran xf86config.
I've ran it, and I know that I've configured everything properly. However when i type (when im in a directory besides /usr/X11R6/bin) startx, it says command not found. so if I am in that dir, and i type ./startx, then it gives me this:
In the past when I used mandrake and redhat, i could just type startx in any directory, and x would come up. What should I do to fix this?
Code:

./startx xauth: command not found
./startx xauth: command not found
./startx xauth: command not found
./startx xauth: command not found
./startx xinit: command not found
./startx xauth: command not found

[/code]

Somehow /usr/X11R6/bin is not in your PATH. Can you try running "env-update" as root, and then logging out and back in again?

update: ok, I can type X (without ./) and x wil run, but with a fatal screen error:
AddScreen/ScreenInit failed for driver 0...

Also, what is the best version of X to be using right now?
4.2.0 , 4.2.1, or 4.2.99?

[edit]woah i replied just as you did... ya ill try that, thanks.
[edit2] ya, env-update worked. thanks.. too bad i still get that error
[edit3] too many edits.... dont want to make it look like I'm spamming for postcount (people have accused me of that on forums ive used in the past)
anyways, Ive got twm running, I had to change the driver X was using to nv, and i had to move my usb logitech mouse onto a ps/2 port with an adaptor. So things seem to be working so far.
