Sarà che ultimamente sono sfortunato, perchè invece di migrare a X.org sono migrato da xfree-4.3.99 a xfree-4.3.0 per dei crash bruttissimi per motivi incompresibili & irripetibili..
Comunque con xfree-4.3.0 le cose vanno molto meglio, ma ho notato che Epiphany 1.25 crasha SEMPRE sulle pagine utf8 tipo questa:

Intendo che dopo aver caricato questa pag, il server X crasha di brutto (a volte bisogna scorrerla), non resta che uccidere X e gdm tramite ssh da un'altro pc 
Succede solo a me?

Qua tutto ok... non ce la faccio a farlo crashare.
Comunque se hai avuto altri crash anche con x.org allora significa che c'è qualcosa che non va nel tuo sistema, non vorrei portare sfiga ma fai un controllino della memoria e scheda video, oppure prima prova a disabilitare il framebuffer (nel caso sia abilitato).
Non hai specificato che scheda video usi.

Con xfree-4.3.0-r5, mozilla-firefox-bin-0.8, framebuffer attivo (ragazzi la console in 1600*1200 è una figata  ) non crasha nulla...
non è che è Epiphany? X ti crasha anche con altre applicazioni?

Correggo, non è Epiphany, succede anche con Firefox.. bel casino.
Ho come l'impressione che sia qualche file incasinato di X o rendering caratteri

Escluderei la memoria della scheda video, il 2d e 3d funzionano bene, si blocca X SOLO nel caso sopracitato.
Ho provato anche a disabilitare il fb da lilo, ma non è cambiato nulla
