Done a bit of searching but cannot see an obvious answer here. Possible that I can't see the woods for the trees tho.
Got a decent 2.6.7-rc3 kernel running - very smooth
Unmerged all previous 2.4 kernels.
When running emerge -puD world I'm told that kernel-headers-2.4.21-rc3 will be upgraded. Also looking at the package database for kernel-headers it says that this is the current set of headers for the 2.6.* kernels.
I was always under the impression that the headers had to match the kernel version in use.
Hopefully someone can correct what I'm missunderstanding here.
Thanks _________________ www.security-forums.com

Thanks Ah Pook!
That's fully explained and it now makes full sense to me.
The lkml post had a link to a much earlier lkml post from Linus which I recall reading from discussions on the use of the /usr/src/linux symlink. I didn't remember the headers part tho.
/me makes a note to keep a better eye on the lkml in future _________________ www.security-forums.com
