I originally posted about this in the install forum:
Where are my SCSI disks?
(There are some extra details there... only 9 posts, not a big read)
Hit a dead end there, and am posting a bug report. However, I think things might be easily resolved by someone who knows the Gentoo/Alpha setup (certainly I don't - never used Gentoo, I got the Alpha 2 days ago!).
In brief: I have a DEC AlphaServer 4100 (1 CPU).
SCSI CD-ROM (dka500) is fine, can boot off LiveCD 1.4rc1-test4 for alpha.
The Qlogic SCSI controller is detected, the qlogicisp module is loaded (but listed as unused by lsmod), but no HDs seem to be available. There is no message about them in dmesg, and no suitable entry in /dev. This makes it rather hard to setup the partitions!
BTW, there should be a 2-disk RAID1 (dra0) and a 5-disk RAID5 (dra1).
Also, I have to manually modprobe the tulip NIC to get it running (not a big deal, but might be related somehow?).
Anyway, if anyone has some insight on how to solve this, it would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks! |

Just tried the experimental gentoo-alpha-20040225 and gentoo-alpha-2004.0-20040313 LiveCDs... same problem... (but now I don't have to modprobe the NIC:) ) |

Ok. I have finally got some time to poke around, and found the cause of the problem: There are no disks attached to the QLogic scsi controller! They are actually attached to a Mylex DAC960LB... and this controller is not detected, and there are no modules for it on the live CD...
If anyone knows how to get a module for this card so I can access my HDs, that would be wonderful! |
