I had CUPS working fine with my HPDeskJet 855C until I upgraded to kernel 2.6.7 at which point it stopped working. After the upgrade, I deleted the printer from cups and tried to add it again but it never gave me the URI option.... Anyways...

I have now added the printer to CUPS but it does not print. Command line printing DOES work so I know the kernel recognizes that my printer is connected to the parallel port.

As you can see from the following link provided that I was able to set up my printer with CUPS: http://www.skepticshour.com/extra/Amoeba/cups.jpg

However, as I stated, it does not print. Clicking the "print test page" button appears to work (no error) but when click on "show active jobs" and click on "restart print job", I get this error: Error: client-error-not-possible

In addition, I have searched the forums (as I always do) but no solution was found.

Any additional information needed? Just ask.

Thanks in advance

Something is up with my configuration because I have tried to attach a different printer with the exact same results. A "dmesg | grep lp" indicated that the printers do get recognized. Also, the low level print test worked with both printers.

I have tried an HP DeskJet 855C AND a Samsung ML-1710, both of which are supported as per linuxprinting.org...

I also dropped back to development 2.6.6 sources to see if that was the issue. I am at a loss. I have no idea where to go here.

Can anyone assist? This is fucked since printing WAS working until I upgraded to kernel 2.6.7. It is either my cups.conf or my kernel that is the problem..

Thanks

[edit-1]
At this point, after executing a job I am now able to restart the job. I no longer receive the error as mentioned in red in my original post. So, everything points to the printer working.. But nothing prints. Nada. Zilch.
