I am looking to create myself a little library from my DVD's. I have a box set up with freevo and mythtv, now looking to start ripping some of my DVD's for playback in one of those two applications.
Anyone have a good suggestion for software? Are there options to keep widescreen format? 5.1 sound? |

If you want to keep the 5.1 sound, choose AC3 sound instead of MP3, as MP3 only supports stereo IIRC.
I don't know what formats freevo or mythtv support, but my guess is if you encode your dvds to something mpeggy it should work.. I haven't tried playing the results in anything other than mplayer or xine though, so ymmv. _________________ "Pokey, are you drunk on love?"

If you're using mythtv, there's a plugin called mythdvd which does all of this for you. It lets you rip your dvds into a library through mythtv with the press of a couple of buttons. |

Freevo uses Mplayer and Xine, so it can play virtually everything
I don't know what mythtv uses, but I guess Mplayer would be a good bet. |
