Hello everybody,

I have some problems in getting my Logitech Quickcam Express webcam to word under kernel 2.4.x. I have actually a Dexxia webcam (what is a Logitech Quickcam Express) and my config is: Epia ME-6000 motherboard, Gentoo Linux, kernel 2.4.25-epia2-r2.

My problem: i tried the qce-ga driver (http://qce-ga.sourceforge.net/) from portage as well as the qce-ga and qce-usb driver from the cvs. USB support has been compiled into the kernel and works alright. In both case, i can get just the first time an image when I access the cam with that command (w3c tool):

Code:
$ vidcat -d /dev/video3 -s 320x240 -f jpeg > ~/essai.jpeg

But if I try the command for a second time, I get an error:
Can't open device /dev/video3.

In the logs I can see the following:

Code:

I have also tried to compile the qce-usb driver with the kernel 2.6.x but I get the same.

I dunno what happens. The strange thing is that, the 1st time, I can get an image, that is alright. So the driver is working in a certain way. But then I cannot access the cam more than once. When I get the error, if I unplug the cam and then I plug it back, I can once more access it (just once). Is it a bug with the usb driver? Is it an incompatibility with the cam?

Has anyone had the same experience with such a cam? Is there a solution?
Thanks in advance.

Cheers. :D

I am having the same problem with mine on my Soyo KT600 Dragon Plus v1.0 board with kernel 2.4.25-gentoo-r2
I posted the question in

this thread before I found your post.

No replies though.

Ok. I have found in part what's going on wrong here.

Atually is the vidcat command a little bit too raw for the Logitech Quickcam Express. I could bring the cam to work with camstream. I get the error when I start camstream, but if then I unplug and replug the cam without exiting camstream, I can get a correct image.

So the driver qce-ga and qce-usb are actually working.

The next step for me would be to try another tool that I can use without X, in order to get the images from the cam. I'll have a look at the w3c tool when I have some time.

Greetings. :D
