| Although i've got kernel and the basic system installed fine, while emerging GUI/desktop stuff i think i hopelessly screwed up my install, so i'd like to start over without completely starting over. Is there a way to strip everything off my system that i have installed since the original setup, or do i have to re-format and start from scratch to make sure of getting a clean system? |

Obviously the second choice is always the best 
Anyway you can recompile all by:
otherwise afaik there is no way to "revert" to the initial emerge system.
