Hi all,
Could somebody tell me weather I can run Gentoo from a CD/DVD without installing it to a Harddisk. If possible, how to do it? What I wanna get done is to make my gentoo envirement portable.
Thanx'n advance:!: |

I suppose you *could* make a setup similar to Knoppix, but I don't see what the point of doing it with gentoo would really be. Where Gentoo shines is in its ability to optimize the packages you install for your system (giving you a speed increase) and allowing you to pick and choose what gets installed. By putting gentoo on a static media (Such as a DVD or CDRW) you lose the customizability (You've got everything preconfigured on the disk) as well as no optomization possibilitys (uness you want to build every package you want to use every time you boot the disk).
The only benefit I could see, is if you'd be using it in a setting where every machine you plan to use is nealry itenticle (EG a school with several dozen machines all of the same make and model), then you could compile everything locally with settings to match those machines, and go from there, but it really seems as though its a waste of time. Re-inventing the wheel to be square, as it were.
EDIT: Please, don't cross post the same quesiton to several sections of the forum. One thread with a question is good enough _________________ { NO -U } { STRIP }
