I have am using Gentoo kernel 2.4 and have compiled mtrr into my kernel. I can't emerge nvidia-kernel because it tells me I don't have mtrr support in my kernel. I have recompiled 3 times and have searched for possible cause for the error. It seems the celeron may not support mtrr and that might be the root of my problem. Please any help on clearing this up would be appreciated.
Nvidia GeForce4 440 mx pci on a 1.3Ghz celeron.

...Are you running the kernel itself? Stupid question I know but sometimes people forget.

Also, don't forget to mount /boot before you copy the files over XD

I can't get proper support for my video card. The system boots. X and my gui of choice both run. I only have 800x600 and I don't have any hardware acceleration.

Maybe you compiled mtrr as a module?

If thats the case, shouldn't the module get loaded automatically if its needed by something, even if it isn't explicitly called for in modules.autoload/kernelversion?

I found an error in my /etc/make.conf. I will recompile my kernel with the correction and see if that is the culprit. I'll be able to get to that tommorrow morning.
