can you try running startx as root and see if its a permission problem? _________________ Later...Gator...

if you remove the font lines in your config file, then it works again.

The new font directory is /usr/share/fonts ... update the paths accordingly. _________________ Platypus. |

This has been mentioned as a problem elsewhere, but I haven't yet found an answer. After I moved to xorg, I changed all the font paths as suggested above, but keep getting an error when I run X:
Code: | Could not init font path element /usr/share/fonts, removing from list!
Could not init font path element /usr/share/fonts/Type1, removing from list! |
The same applied for local, Speedo, CID, and util fonts. Running "fc-cache -fv" shows 0 fonts/directories for these (and some other fonts).
I noticed that unmerging xfree did not remove my old xfree font directories. I was wondering whether these should be removed manually, e.g. should I delete: /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1/ and so on, or are there going to be some applications that still rely on the old xfree fonts?
Any ideas? _________________ Regards,

Do you also have fonts in X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1/ (from the xfree installation)?
Does anyone know if these are required for any applications or if they should be deleted when one switches over to xorg? _________________ Regards,
