I just upgraded my kernel to 2.6.6-love2. Now my cd burner fails to mount anything. But my dvd drive works great, with no problems. I booted back into my old kernel(2.6.5-love2), and again, no luck there.

it works in windows fine, i just rebooted into it, poped the same cd in, and it showed up, so i don't think its my drive.

What gives?

Mount or burn? They're different...

Make sure you enabled CD support in your kernel, and the corresponding filesystems (iso9660, etc).

Maybe show your fstab?..

That's odd... Try
Code:
dmesg | grep hdc

and see if anything comes up.

i stared playing with it more, and it still won't mount correctly. But when i push the eject button, it says

Code:

Input/Ouput error
block on /dev/hdc is write-protected, mounting read-only

then i can't control c it, but if i exit out of the eterm, then i can eject the cd.

Okay... Just post your whole dmesg. Maybe there's something in there...

Let me get this straight. You have 2 optical drives--1 CD-RW drive and one DVD drive. Are you sure that hdd is the DVD drive and not the CD-RW drive?
Also, setting the fs type for your CD-RW drive as auto and not iso9660 might help..

i got a little more stuff, i tried what you said, by changing the file system to ise 9660, and that gave me this:

Code:

mount: block device /dev/hdc is write-protected, mounting read-only
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/hdc, or too many mounted file systems

i had to wait about 5 min for that to pop up.

No, I meant taking out the iso9660 and put in auto, like this
Code:
/dev/cdroms/cdrom0    /mnt/cdrom   auto    noauto,ro    0 0

Using /dev/hdc instead of /dev/cdroms/cdrom0 might help, too.

I don't think the 40x should matter much.
