This is confusing to describe, so rather then try to get the terms right, I'll describe an end result I need:

My machine runs gdm (and gnome.) As well, people ssh into the box. Finally, I also run apcupsd which uses "wall" to send messages. (People logged in via ssh like sending wall msgs as well.)

Short of having a gnome-terminal always open, is there a way to see these wall'd messages while inside of gnome? Perhaps something that pops up a new window with the message inside...

(Note that gnome DOES appear to create a utmp entry for the gnome session, and lists the TTY as ":0")

i don't know it this is a configuration issue because it i "wall" anything it shows up on every open console in kde
