I noticed that the gentoo-dev-sources 2.6.7-r6 do not include the BCM5700 driver patch that was in 2.6.5 :(

I was wondering, what is the big debate over these drivers ? One group says the other driver has bugs, and vice versa. All the searching on google brings up threads from last year :(

Can we get a patch for BMC5700 driver added to gentoo-dev-sources 2.6.7 ? :)

From what I understand is that the tigon3 is community supported, and you should only use the BCM5700 driver if the tg3 driver does not work. From the AMD64 Technotes:

Quote:
Many Opteron motherboards come with a built-in on-board network chip manufactured by Broadcom. We have provided both the standard in-kernel tg3 driver as well as the bcm5700 driver to support this card. The tg3 driver should be used if possible, as it is community-supported, and the bcm5700 driver only exists to aide those who have trouble with tg3.

This may or may not still be the case, and I use the tg3 driver because it works fine for me.

OK cheers. I haven't bothered to check if there are any connection issues - it's working at the moment, which is enough :)
