HI,
im running xorg with the 3.9.0 ati drivers and everytime i switch to console x crashes. nothing in the logs, just crashing.
I read some posts on this topic but sadly they don't apply to me. I don't have the radeon framebuffer in the kernel which was the problem in most cases.
Any ideas?
Cheers,
Ben |

I had exactly the same problem.
Do you have MTRR compiled in?
Code: | grep -i mtrr /usr/src/linux/.config |
if it is, then try taking it off and recompile + emerge ati-drivers.
in xorg.conf check that you have in device section:
Option "mtrr" "off" # disable DRI mtrr mapper, driver has its own code for mtrr
Hope this helps you too. |

Finally! Taking mtrr out of my kernel made it work again. Thank you!
One noticed one thing though. My 9800pro was performing way better with the mtrr parts in my kernel. Still, I'm not much of a gamer so it doesn't bother me much. Being able to switch to a console is much more important to me. |
