Hell this must be common enough.

I hate .doc but there's always some nurd who thinks it's the only format that exists on a computer and sends you a three line msg or a jpg wrapped as a .doc.

So I need (at least) r.o. to this format.

I tried antiword but its text output does not help the jpg.

wvHTML seems not to exist despite mergeing wv .

emerge abiword went fine but the command abiword or Abiword does nowt and a find doesnt show any executables of a similar name . man abiword does not have an entry.

I tried emerge latex, there aint one.

some forum post suggested tetex as a latex disto but it am seeing HUGE down loads and its going to bulk my system.

Isnt there just some doc2 html converter of simple doc viewer somewhere?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Open office will work for it (app-office/openoffice or app-office/openoffice-bin).

I don't use it but I believe wvHtml takes only on cap.
abiword should read most .doc files. The executable is AbiWord-2.0 as you can see below
Code:
# qpkg -l abiword
app-office/abiword-2.0.7 *
CONTENTS:
/usr
/usr/bin
/usr/bin/ttfadmin.sh
/usr/bin/abiword-2.0 -> AbiWord-2.0 1085482284
/usr/bin/ttftool
/usr/bin/AbiWord-2.0
>>>snipped<<<
And of course OpenOffice.org will do fine.

No need to discuss this in more than one location.
