Hey guys can you help me with this problem?
Basically i have setup a connection to my isp, through my 56k modem with wvdial, it connects perfectly but i cannot view any web sites apart from google, ebuyer.com and kcl.ac.uk, and i can't even use irc!
The dns addresses are right and i even cleared the cache just to make sure google ebuyer were not being loaded from cache. I had the same prob in windowz with this modem, but when i changed the serial port it started to work fine under windowz but not under gentoo. Any reasons why?
ifconfig shows that the device is up and i have an ip address allocated to my computer.
Can somebody please help me, I keep having to go into windowz just to use the bloody internet which sux!!!
Thanks for any help given!!! |

Ok first of all i was wrong about the wondowz thing, becuase now it is working with both serial ports.
About the pinging, i have already tried this (forgot to post this earlier).
On google it will ping as normal, as well as on ebuyer.com, but for other sites like slashdot.org it will say unknown host: www.whatever.com.
But another thing is wierd now, after changing serial ports again, i can now see slashdot.org, www.ebuyer.com, www.kcl.ac.uk, but not google.
This has really got me confused!?!?!?!? |

I forgot to change the nameserver setting in the /etc/resolve.conf file, since i have moved from uni halls to home.
So everything is working perfectly now.

That is generaly the first place to look if you are having name resolution issues. If you can ping IP then it is most likely the DNS is having issues OR the /etc/resolv.conf file is, dare I say, pooched _________________ Come and play in my land |
