My friend and I currently run a small server that has a couple of websites on it using Apache, PHP, and MySQL. The server is currently running RedHat but I'd like to create a new server with Gentoo.
I've been using Gentoo as my desktop machine for almost a year now and I'm pretty comfortable with it. I did however have a test machine up running Gentoo that I would mess around with. I had Apache, MySQL, and PHP running on this test machine. At some point their was a security update for Apache and I had to upgrade both Apache and mod_php. For some reason this caused php to stop working all together and I still to this day don't know why.
The fact is, I've been babied by RedHats up2date manager. When I did setup this test machine I used this thread. I'm wondering if its necessary to do all those steps that seem extra every time I upgrade either apache or mod_php.[/url]
Perhaps I'm over complicating this whole thing and its much easier then I think. Thanks. _________________ My Site |

when php stops working after an update it is usually because you have updated the /etc/conf.d/apache2 file which removes the -D PHP4 option. |

Perhaps I just messed up the conf file like you said. Are their any good How-Tos on setting up a Gentoo server? I really want to nail this server down and make it secure.
As I said before, RedHat really babied me. _________________ My Site |
