First things first. I'm a (nearly) complete Linux noob. I was going to start installing Gentoo and was planning on using Fluxbox as my window manager. One of my online buddies was going to help should I had any problems, but he's been completely gone as of late so I figured I would post here. As far as use flags are concerned, this is what he (and I) came up with:
USE="alsa X cups dvd cdr gif gtk2 jpeg pnp samba usb xmms -kde -gnome"
Should I not have -kde, as from what I understand, Fluxbox uses some stuff from KDE?
Also: How exactly do I get Fluxbox on my box, I can't find any sort of quickie tutorial on Google, and how do I make it so Grub (running a Win2k dual boot) will automatically launch into Fluxbox.
Thanks for your time, I realize dealing with people ignorant like myself isn't exactly fun |

To install fluxbox, do as root "emerge fluxbox". You can run KDE applications in fluxbox provided that you install the necessary libraries, but you don't need KDE to run fluxbox.
There is no way GRUB can boot into fluxbox... GRUB boots the Linux kernel. You can have fluxbox start automatically, however. There are many ways this can be done.
One is creating a file called .xinitrc in a user's /home folder. Just add a line with "fluxbox" in it and fluxbox should be started when the user starts X with "startx".
You will need to install and configure X on top of which fluxbox is ran. This guide can help you with the process. _________________ Hello. |

Alright I read that and got how to install it, and make it run with startx, but is there a way I can get an x session going with automatically once I start up gentoo with grub? |

You could make a graphical login manager start during startup:
Code: | rc-update add xdm default |
Make sure you choose which one you want started in the /etc/rc.conf file. In that file there should also be a variable for which wm to start when running startx. The available options are available in /etc/X11/Sessions (it's a directory). _________________ Dentists are evil. |
