Ive got an MA111 USB wireless adapter, worked fine on windows, the lan port on my laptop is broken so i had to do a networkless install. everything installed fine, except when it came to install my wlan usb.
i followed the instructions of the linux-wlan-ng README, but it seems that gentoo does not recognise that my wlan should be wlan0. on my laptop there is a ipv4 to ipv6 link which it loads as eth0, and the non-working lan port it loads as eth1, when i do lsmod the prism2_usb stuff is all loaded with p80211, lsusb shows Netgear, Inc. there. Is there any way to make gentoo understand that wlan0 is my usb? thanks. |

You're a little unclear when you say gentoo "doesn't recognize that it should be wlan0". Do you want it to start the network on boot? Are you sure wlan0 is the network name? (Can you iwconfig/ifconfig it?)

The device isnt coming up in ifconfig, and according to wlan-ng it doesnt work with iwconfig anyway.
The module is loaded but nothing happens |

Doesn't come up in ifconfig when you just type ifconfig? What happens if you type "ifconfig -a"?
I just ran into something similar and my new wireless nic shows up as eth1.... trying to get it to show up as wlan0 as we speak... |
