I am having this very strange problem with my X display (video). I can not use (X) Linux at this time because of it.

I don't believe it is a hardware problem since this video problem only exists when I am running Linux. When dual booting Win2000 on the same hardware the video display is normal.

I have had Gentoo working for many months now, with no hardware changes.

I'll describe the problem as best as I can, The video image (Desktop) is off to the left, about 2". I know someone will say " adjust your HORZ monitor setting" It is adjusted all it can and it is still off to the left.

I'll start with my setup.

Video Card = Nvidia GeForce4 Ti-4200
MB = Asus A7N8X-Deluxe (6 months old)

My system is updated as of yesterday (Jun-27).

I am running kernel 2.4.25-r2 and have the latest nvidia-kernel module install. My XF86Config-4 file is correct. I have been using this config file for many years without problems. Up until a few weeks ago everything was running smoothly.

* x11-base/xfree
Latest version available: 4.3.0-r5
Latest version installed: 4.3.0-r5

* media-video/nvidia-kernel
Latest version available: 1.0.4496-r3
Latest version installed: 1.0.4496-r3

I have never had this package installed, don't know if this is needed, but without it, everything WAS working

* x11-base/xfree-drm
Latest version available: 4.3.0-r7
Latest version installed: [ Not Installed ]

I have had many different flavors of Linux over the years and know my way around, now I find myself at a loss...

Could this be NVidia module problem?

Thanks.

Jeff

Is the screen alignment okay when not in X? If so, take a look at the man pages for fbset.

Something like

Code:
fbset -move right -step 128

might just do the trick.
