Hi folks,

I have an FIC AT31 Fusion board that has an embedded Radeon chip on-board. (http://www.fica.com/site/html/products/mb/detail.asp?cat_id=240000049&C_ID=240000100) Unfortunately, X bombs whenever I tell it to use either the "ati" or "radeon" drivers; it tells me that it can't find a device to use. It can't find the card in the PCI listings, apparently. I ran "pciscan" and it said Unknown ATI chip. (Yes, I have the radeon module compiled in the kernel.)

I looked at the XFree website and apparently according to their README, XFree 4.2 doesn't support Radeons?! according to http://www.xfree86.org/4.2.1/ati3.html (I find that hard to believe) I found the Gatos ATI drivers and tried that as well, no dice there either.

I can get X working under vesa, but there's no fun in having a 3D chipset running under vesa mode! Am I doomed into buying a new 3D board?

Any advice?

Hi,

what do "pciscan" tell you about vendor- and chip-id? It seemed to detect the vendor correctly, so the vendor-id should be 0x1002. The chip-id should be something about 0x4??? or 0x5???.
With that chip-id you can have a look into the "xf86PciInfo.h", thats part of the xfree-sources, try to find that id there. I assume you won´t have luck, and that means that the chip is not known by XFree :(

If the chip-id is 0x4966, you can participate here

if the chip-id of yours is different, you can take that files you´ll find there as an inspiration how to edit your XFree-sources :?

good luck
