Preface: I am at my wits end... no one had any ideas for me last time around. This time i am using the stage 3 installation and it still generates this error when i run yabootconfig.

[size=10]All who know much more than I: Please offer your aid...
I cannot, not for the life of me, get yabootconfig to create a functional yaboot.conf file. [see code below]

System info:
G4 ppc (not the silver variety)
512 mb RAM
2 - IBM deskstar 40GB HD's [Gentoo on the master drive]

Code:

# yabootconfig --debug
yabootconfig: DEBUG: ROOT=/dev/hda4
yabootconfig: DEBUG: mac-fdisk is: mac-fdisk
yabootconfig: DEBUG: BOOT=/dev/hda2
...
Install yaboot bootstrap on /dev/hda2 to boot Linux from /dev/hda4 [Yes]
Creating a simple /etc/yaboot.conf...
yabootconfig: DEBUG: KERNEL=/boot/vmlinux
yabootconfig: DEBUG: KERNEL=/boot/vmlinux
KERNDEV=
KERNDIR=
LINKDEV=
PARTITION=
KERNELDISK=
yabootconfig: Could not determine necessary information, aborting...
yabootconfig: Are you using chroot yabootconfig instead of yabootconfig --chroot ?

mac-fdisk output:

Code:

/dev/hda1      Apple_partition_map  Apple        31.5k
/dev/hda2          Apple_Bootstrap  bootstrap    800.0k
/dev/hda3          Apple_UNIX_SVR2  swap         2.0G
/dev/hda4          Apple_UNIX-SVR2  root         10.0G
/dev/hda5          Apple_UNIX_SVR2  home         7.2G
/dev/hda6               Apple_Free Extra         128M
/dev/hda7                Apple_HFS Apple_HFS...  19.0G
/dev/hda8               Apple_Free               8.0k

fstab (abridged):

Code:

/dev/hdb3          none         swap           sw            0 0
/dev/hdb4          /            ext3           noatime       0 1
/dev/hdb5          /home        ext3           noatime       0 2
/dev/cdroms...

none               /proc        proc           defaults      0 0
none               /dev/shm     tmpfs          defaults      0 0

anything else you need to figure it out, I will provide gladly, of course...many thanks to all in advance!

Very sorry, the b's were meant to be a's and I left out the Apple partitions originally. .. thanks for the suggestion though. I fixed the mislabelling above.
