I just got a dual processor pentium 3 machine with an intel motherboard and chipset.

running setiathome to "burn it in a bit" seems to work fine, but the following shows up in dmesg:
Code:
APIC error on CPU1: 02(02)
APIC error on CPU0: 02(02)
APIC error on CPU1: 02(08)
APIC error on CPU0: 02(02)
APIC error on CPU1: 08(02)
APIC error on CPU1: 02(02)
APIC error on CPU0: 02(02)
with the lines repeating over and over again.

my /proc/interrupts:
Code:
           CPU0       CPU1
  0:   39148694         17    IO-APIC-edge  timer
  2:          0          0          XT-PIC  cascade
  8:          1          1    IO-APIC-edge  rtc
 14:     376112          2    IO-APIC-edge  ide0
 16:      33094          0   IO-APIC-level  eth0
NMI:          0          0
LOC:   39150022   39639531
ERR:        106
MIS:          0

my kernel:
Code:
Linux tigger 2.6.7-mm2 #2 SMP Thu Jun 24 12:46:21 EDT 2004 i686 Pentium III (Coppermine) GenuineIntel GNU/Linux

I have used single processor machines until now, and in over a year of Linux have never seen this message. Any ideas on what it is or what I can do about it?

I have just found out myself today all about APIC and the problems it can cause....apparently there are two versions (1.1 and 1.4). You can change these settings in the bios (you can also disable APIC as well). Try the different settings & that could sort you out. Otherwise it might be a hardware issue...I hear that the original Athlon Tyan MP board had similar problems..... Hope this sorts it out for you, but as I said I only found this out today & it might not be 100% correct....

Hmm. That sounds like it could probably be it. I'm getting rid of the server though because there isn't enough room for my raid array in it though so I probably won't go to the trouble of figuring it out. Thanks anyways!
