OpenAFS or NFS or tmpfs?

I need to share /var/tmp aka portage/gcc's temporary storage space since I have a few boxes with very little storage space on them. Now the question what would work better? OpenAFS NFS or a simple tmpfs?

I think NFS would be the simplest, but tmpfs might be the cleanest solution. As I've never done anything with tmpfs, I'm not sure how hard it would be to use.
