Hi.

Ive just emereged gDesklets, and the mac OSX starterbar.

gDesklets, and gDeskletsDisplay are now in Applications > Accessories, in Gnome.

But when i try to run gDesklet, the little clock icon comes up and the program name appears in the bottom 'start' menu type thingy, then nothing?!

Im a n00b.

Thanks

fire up a terminal, and point it to the directory where you have your desklets (somewhere in /usr/share).
start gdesklets (gdesklets &), walk into the directory containing the desklets (Displays), and when you have found your .display, tell gdesklets to start in like this:
Code:
gdesklets yourdesklet.display

gdesklet should now place the desklet under your pointer - simply place it out.

good luck.

To further illustrate the previous post.....

When you launch gdesklets, you need to provide the desklet you wish to start. All desklets end in a .display "extension".... When you install a new desklet, they are placed in /usr/share/gdesklets/desklet-directory so you would fire up your desired desklet with:
Code:
gdesklets /usr/share/gdesklets/PATHTODESKLET/SOMEDESKLET.display

Hi and thanks for your reply.

I cant get it to work!

Code:

jammin@tux StarterBar $ ls
gfx  starterbar.display
jammin@tux StarterBar $ gdesklets StarterBar.display
/usr/bin/gdesklets:65: DeprecationWarning: the 'argc' parameter is optional and deprecated
  client.set_restart_command(1, [sys.argv[0]])
gDesklets 0.26.1
Copyright (C) 2003, 2004 Martin Grimme, Christian Meyer, Jesse Andrews

This software is licensed under the terms of the GNU GPL.

jammin@tux StarterBar $

This returns a gnome error message box saying it could not display the file as the file doesnot exsist?

Im using XOrg if that makes any difference.

HELP

Thanks.

(let's take this in public, so that we can help others with similar errors).

to check your python and gdesklets, you can do it like this:

Code:
emerge python gdesklets-core -pv

(running a emerge search will give you a few hundred hits, and it's not very funny to find the right package version when you do it :>)

this is my output:
Quote:
starbreaker welkin # emerge python gdesklets-core -pv

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild R ] dev-lang/python-2.3.4 +X +berkdb -bootstrap -build -doc +gdbm -ipv6 +ncurses +readline +ssl +tcltk -ucs2 7,020 kB
[ebuild R ] gnome-extra/gdesklets-core-0.26.1 331 kB

Total size of downloads: 7,352 kB

(I don't think this is the latest bleeding edge versions, I haven't upgraded anything for some time now.)

anyways - as you can see, my versions are python 2.3.4, and gdesklets 0.26.1.
