I'm getting crappy LAN rates with my TULIP-esque card with this Love. It works fine on Redeeman, but I can't get over 60KB/s on my own LAN with this release! WTF. Every other computer seems fine. _________________ I was a Gangster for Capitalism, by Major General Smedley Butler.

The slow network performance is known, and according to the LKML, was fixed recently, so you'll probably be fine once love moves to mm6.
Or maybe a patch against mm5 will come out before then. I haven't seen one yet, though. _________________ They don't have a good bathroom to do coke in. |

I´ve made this diff and for me it works so far - no more slow adsl-connection - but maybe it works not for you
EDIT: as mentioned by jazz use this switch for the patch to apply cleanly

It seems to me that the "c"s should be "client" and I dunno what to do about line 212..

Ok if someone tries to apply that patch directly u may get all the hunks failed.. its due to some whitespace problem..
So while patching use the command and it'll work..
I got this from EvilDarkArchon from the irc..
Bye,

Not only that, apparently somewhere between the rc2-mm stuff and 2.6.7-mm4, network code got botched up good. I used to see about 35 megabit from pair.com, now I'm seeing like about 2.
Strangeness... |

this snippet is repeated endlessly until i disconnect the drive. apart from that, the kernel runs fine. other kernels (2.6.5-love4, 2.6.6 gentoo development-sources) run fine.
anybody experiencing the same problems? or knows how to fix this?
thx |

Not only that, apparently somewhere between the rc2-mm stuff and 2.6.7-mm4, network code got botched up good. I used to see about 35 megabit from pair.com, now I'm seeing like about 2.
Strangeness... |
All you needed to do was look up, dude...
Theres a (working) patch backported from -bk15 that fixes the network problem.
Also, what is "mptscsih"?

On boot sata hangs.
It detects the sata drives, but hangs 2 lines later when displaying the partitions on sda.
love-2.6.7-rc3 works fine.
This is the output with love-2.6.7-rc3 (the output with love-2.6.7 is the same but hangs when detecting the partitions on sda)

I am happy to report that I am up and runing with this version using 4k stack thanks to nvidia for updating there driver.
In the process of this I found that (on my system atleast) 4k stacks and preempt are verry broken when used to gether, during boot my modules would dump all over, and eventually hang. 8k stacks and preempt worked fine tho.
At any rate thax OneofOne, andother fine job _________________ The terrible thing about hell is that when you're there you can't even tell as you move through this life you love so you could be there and not even know |

Lol, 4k stacks and preeempt dont work for me too.. i was getting these kernel page fault message while trying to anything heavy.. finally i thought it might be worth a try to disable the 4k stacks, and what do ya know..
The bugger was the problem all is good now..
Bye,

Very newbie-ish question:
How exactly do I apply this patch? Do I copy and paste the above code into a file and then run "patch -p1 -l filename"? Does the file have to be placed in a particular location?
Thanks in advance. |

more or less right.
Copy the code to a file (net.patch for example)
then cd to the kernel source (/usr/src/2.6.7-love5 for example)
then to apply the patch: Code: | patch -p1 -l < /path/to/net.patch |
That's it - watch the output, in case you get any rejects and the like, if it went smoothly, recompile the kernel, mount /boot, copy the new bzImage over, reboot and bask in the glory of full network speed.
If you are trying a new patch, you may also want to try the option --dry-run, like this: Code: | patch -p1 -l --dry-run < /path/to/net.patch |
This works a bit like the -p option in emerge, it will not actually apply the patch but will give the output as if it did.
If you are happy with the output, remove the --dry-run option and apply it for real.

Hello,
I noticed that in this version the SCSI Advansys drivers are missing yet the driver files are there!
Is this a love-sources problem? Or Vanilla/MM problem?
Please get the AdvanSys SCSI drivers back.
Thank you. |
