I've got a cable hookup at home that provides me with a modest 50kbps down. Now that's decent, but certainly not the "ph@ttest p1pe" in the world. Anyway, when I download anything of any significant size (for example the 35MB Linux source), all of the net resources go to that and any other program that wants them is forced to run at a very meager ~5kbps. Is there any way that I can get downloads to "share" the bandwidth a little more smoothly?
I want to avoid capping the downloads, because I'm not *always* surfing the net while emerge downloads something. The best solution would be something that would divide the bandwidth on-the-fly. Any solutions? |

Sorry, no solution here. But I've been curious about how Linux and other OS's distribute network bandwidth among apps, so I wanted to advertise my interest as well. Hopefully someone with expertise will answer. |
