Hmmm,
My kernel seems to be unable to find my burner for some reason (doesn't show with the other ide devices at boot) The 2.4 kernel on the install CD finds it though. Have I missed some kernel option? It is a Memorex device btw
Atm I am using the gentoo dev sources (, same problem with all versions I have tested for the past few months).
Hmmm, not sure what would be relevant information =) Any ideas anyone?
Oh, yes, have tried both with and without SCSI emulation, made no difference.

Xoda,
Are you using a 2.4 or 2.6 kernel. With 2.4 you must use SCSI emulation with 2.6 its optional. _________________ Regards,

What does dmesg tell about IDE devices detection ?
Is your writer there ?

Nope, the writer ain't there... starting to wonder though, might the problem have something to do with the fact that the writer would be ide2 master (hdg)?
