Mmm. So, I go online, and quickly search for the drivers for this card, not realizing that it's the 2200, not the 2100. I try loading the ipw2100 drivers with repeated failures, and then notice this.
I go to the official project site to download the ipw2200 drivers, and the driver is worth jack. It does nothing...yet.
I have tried NDISwrapper, which works perfectly...unfortunately, at an inconsistent time after I modprobe ndiswrapper, my system always completely hangs (no Magic SysRq, no nothing). This always frustrates me, because it seems so strange that ndiswrapper hangs when I'm not doing anything specific...[when it hangs, I have been everywhere from inputting the WEP key to having brought the interface up]
Has anyone had any good experiences with this card? If so, how did you manage it? _________________ moo |

I've been on the ipw2100 mailing list for a while, and there were people who made their ipw2200 work... check http://ipw2100.sourceforge.net/ and http://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/ipw2100-devel for more information. The mailing list archives are searchable, you should see some hints if you search for ipw2200. The people on the list are very friendly and helpful, too, so if you subscribe and ask nicely, you will probably get a helpful reply. |

Thanks, I'll do that when I get some time...
Unfortunately [and/or fortunately], I'm leaving on a month-long trip with finite net access tomorrow, so that'll be difficult to do for awhile.
Fortunately, playing around with ndiswrapper, I managed to get the wireless working stably. So I'll have that clunky interface, until such time as I manage to get ipw2[1,2]00 installed properly.
Thanks! _________________ moo |

Have any of you guys had success setting up WEP with ndiswrapper and the Intel 2200bg? I can connect to my access point just fine with encryption turned off, and I can connect to it in Windows with WEP turned on, but I can't seem to get WEP to work in Linux. I've tried all the variations on key_ESSID="1234-1234-1234-1234-1234-1234-56" suggested in /etc/conf.d/wireless. If anyone has this working, I would love to know what you did.
On another note, when I modprobe ndiswrapper, dmesg shows the following:
Code: | ndiswrapper device wlan0 supports WPA with TKIP cipher |
Does that mean that I can use WPA? Would that require using iwpriv? Has anyone successfully used WPA with this card?
Thanks |

Technically, mine says it supports it.
Technically, I have gotten it to accept a key [don't put in the hyphens, my friend].
Technically, I've never gotten encryption working.
So...try ndiswrapper 0.9, and hope for the best! ^_^ _________________ moo |

are you 100% sure you turned off 4kb stacks in the kernel? that will cause lockups at different amounts of time after modprobing. I believe there is also an issue with APIC. I have ndiswrapper working fine with WEP on my laptop with 2200 BG |
