I admit it. I am a dinosaur who still uses LPR (well, LPRNG anyhow) instead of CUPS. Sorry, LPRNG is just too easy to setup provided you understand filters...
Anyhow, by removing CUPS and installing LPRNG, SAMBA has mysteriously stopped woking, complaining about "libcups" not being available. I tried re-emerging samba and it complains about a conflict with lpr.
Come on. I have been using samba and lpr for years! I can't even get smbclient working because of this!
Is it really necessary to have cups to use samba? Is there a "gentoo" way around it or do I need to go download the source and install it myself, thereby breaking my nice clean system? |

Try adding
-cups
to the use variable in /etc/make.conf
Like this:
And re-emerge samba etc.
That way samba will not be compiled and linked with cups support. |
