Ok I installed Maya 4.01 on my gentoo box, and after much headache (rpm's) finally got it to run *once* but after I closed it and tried to re-open it all I get is:
Code: |
autobot@OptimusPrime autobot $ maya
Unknown colorls variable `do'.
|
So I did some reading and came to the conclusion that this is an old bug in fileutils, but from what I gather the patch has been applied to the included version of fileutils. Has anyone ran across this issue before, and if so how did you resolve it? _________________ This message self destructed a long time ago. |

Anyone not have an idea, guess I will have to email the fileutils developers for assistance. _________________ This message self destructed a long time ago. |

Well you know I can't do that, but if you have an answer to the problem please post it as neither Alias|Wavefront or the fileutils developers have answered my emails yet. _________________ This message self destructed a long time ago. |

Well for some odd reason I can launch maya from Eterm without any problem, but all other terminals fail with the same error so if anyone else has this problem I guess you should be able to do the same until I recieve an email from A|W telling me the correct fix. _________________ This message self destructed a long time ago. |

What shell are you running maya from? Can I assume from the topic that you are running from tcsh? Personally I had similar problems when I first installed Maya but I was using bash..when I switched to tcsh everything was okay. I recently formatted my box and havent' reinstalled Maya yet.. I think I will try today to see if I discover any new clues.
Speaking of Maya, I have always emerged the openmotif from portage not from the rpms they provide... and I noticed on openmotif.org that 2.2 is out....yet the portage is still at 2.1.30 I think.... Who is maintaining openmotif? |

I wasn't running maya from tcsh, csh is required by maya to run.
--Updated to Maya 4.02 and all is well, but here is a small clip from an A|W email:

i'm having a similar problem, i just installed maya 4.0.2 (i don't like rpm at all compared to emerge), and when i run it i just get this error:
Code: | /usr/aw/maya4.0/bin/maya.bin: relocation error: /usr/aw/maya4.0/lib/libFoundation.so: undefined symbol: __builtin_delete |
i had a patch that would make it work on redhat 7.3 (since it was designed for rh7.1), but that doesn't help. in fact, if i run ldd -r on it, i get an amazing amount of errors:
Code: |

and so on. i installed it with rpm -i --nodeps, since rpm couldn't even figure out that /bin/sh was there. am i messing up something with rpm? anybody have any advice? btw, i hadn't done anything else but emerge rpm and then install maya. anything else i need to do? |

You will need to install it using the rpm options force and nodeps, that should get you past your current problem. _________________ This message self destructed a long time ago. |

My curiosity woke up and did some Alias|Wavefront web browsing in order to see what they say about this.
http://www.aliaswavefront.com/en/Community/Support/qualified_hardware/QUAL/maya_40_linux.html
Although
Quote: | We do not currently support your running operating system, we recommend you upgrade to RedHat 7.2 |
Sounds, at least sarcastic; and having taj-mahal-size bugs like this ...
Quote: | Maya hangs after doing 15 interactive renders (in the render view). |
... as known issue, i think successfully installing and running Maya seems as painful as being assf**ked by an elephant ... what about Blender? _________________ Ruben. |

Blender is not the same calibre as Maya, but it is very nice software that deserves a look by anyone interested in 3d art.
.: Soon we will be able to build it from source. _________________ This message self destructed a long time ago. |

Sure isn't the calibre as Maya ... but take a look into this http://www.elysiun.com/gallery.php?id=27 (made in Blender) for instance ... they look really cool _________________ Ruben. |

I was following it until a week or two before the code release.
I got into blender probably a month or two back...
Just downloaded the source a day or two ago, and haven't even had a chance to compile it. Though the source looks real messy right now. Can't wait for it to be beautied up a bit. (with automake functionality and such...) |
