I emerged GNOME 2.6.0 and then upgraded to GNOME 2.6.1 to hopefully (and unsuccessfully) fix this problem: I have no 'desktop' in my GNOME desktop. :D Meaning I can't right click on the desktop, there's no icons on the desktop, and my wallpaper is not memorized. Or rather, the wallpaper IS memorized, it just isn't shown unless I specifically tell it to be shown in the preferences every time I boot.

Is there a way to begin diagnosing this problem?

On another note, I always get a failed trying to shutdown when it's shutting down GDM. How can i start fixing that as well?

Thanks in advance

That's because gdm has already been shutdown...don't worry about it.

Great, thanks! I only need to type nautilus once? It'll remember this every time I log in from now on?
