This may seem like a total newbie question...because it is.
I went through the install of Gentoo and everything seemed fine. I have also emerged XFree86 and am in the process of configuring it. I pretty much followed the tutorials for this as well, but am getting an error when I run "startx". Here is part of what I get...
Code: |
...
(==) Using config file: "/etc/X11/XF86Config"
Using vt 7
(EE) No devices detected.
Fatal server error:
no screens found
When reporting a problem...
XIO: fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on X server ":0.0"
after 0 requests (o known processed) with 0 events remaining.
|
...and then I am back at the cmd prompt. Any clue as to why this is happening?? I just want to get X working, then I'll try and figure out how to configure it. If I haven't provided enough info about this, just ask for it. Thanks! _________________ Cheers,

Could it have anything to do with the fact that I cannot install the accelerated Nvidia drivers using...
When I try this I get an error saying the following...
Code: | * This version needs MTRR support for most chipsets!
* Please enable MTRR support in your kernel config, fount at:
*
* Processor type and features -> [*] MTRR (Memory Type Range Register) support
*
* and recompile your kernel ...
!!! ERROR: media-video/nvidia-kernel-1.0.4496-r3 failed.
!!! Function pkg_setup, LIne 33, Exitcode 0
!!! MTRR support not detected!
|
How do I recompile my kernel??! What is the command that is required for that? Any help would be great. Thanks again!! _________________ Cheers,
