I'm not entirely sure this question belongs here. So feel free to move it somewhere else if nessecary.
Yesterday i bought this nice HDD cooler to extend the lifetime of my HD. ( i really love the idea of a cool(er) HDD ) But when installing, it would only fit when i placed the HDD upside-down. Not a real problem, but i'm just wondering, will it ( eventually ) has some effect on a harddisk when it's not placed "properly" ( whatever that is... ).
I'm talking about performance/lifetime/reliability.
just curious ![Wink ](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif) |

dreamer,
HDD bearings are set up with a preload, which means that they can be run the right way up or on edge. Upside down will dramitically reduce the life of the platter bearings.
Drives do vary. Check the manufacters spec. I recsll 3 deg tilt from top up or on either edge being commonly quoted a few years ago.

Computer users fall into two groups:-
those that do backups
those that have never had a hard drive fail. |
