Hi There,

I'm about to install Gentoo on a HP Omnibook (1GHz, 40GB, 512MB). Back some month when I installed WinXP, I left one partition empty for Linux. That's what it looks like:

6GB Primary Partition 'Windows XP' NTFS
8GB Primary Partition 'resererved for Linux' non-formatted
6GB Primary Partition 'XP Programs' NTFS
20GB Logical Drive in Extended Partition 'Shared Files' FAT32

I read the 87 pages about installing gentoo in the handbook (want to install: gentoo-dev-sources (2.6) and use ext2, ext3) and was reading: sticky: partitioning, but couldn't find out, what I actually have to do:

Which changes do I have to make in fdisk or can I put /, /boot, /root, /home on a single partition?

What about the mount points?

I would appreciate any help very much.

You will need at least 3 partitions:
- /
- /boot
- swap

/boot: 32mb+
swap: depends on how much ram you have, read the docs for a recommendation
/: the rest.

/boot will need to be made bootable.

If available i'd recommend cfdisk for partitioning, I for one prefer it and find it easier to use.

For a detailed rundown on how to do all this.

So I should erase the Partition 'reserved for Linux' and make 3 Partitions out of it:

one Primary Partition for Boot
two logical drives in the extended Partition

right?

That should do it.
