athlon64 linux 3D (as in games) support

I'm trying to set up a new box, and can't seem to find an answer for this simple question; for all the athlon64 users out there:

Is the athlon64/nvidia combo a good setup for a linux gaming box? Or is it 32bit a better 3D graphics platform?

How's the linux support for this platform?
