Hi

I'm trying a stage 3 install, on a nforce 2 board (NF7-s). my onboard nic picks up OK as eth0.
When I do adsl-setup it only allows PPPoE and my ISP (Nildram) only uses PPPoA.
If I do adsl-start I get timed out error.
Do I need PPPoE or am I doing something wrong?. If not how do I change to PPPoA.
Thanks in advance

PPPoA is a fairly new deployment in ADSL circuits. I don't know that linux has wide support for PPPoA. However, I found this:

Thanks for the quick reply Ateo.

I'm relatively new to linux though and this seems a little bit out of my depth.
I have installed mandrake and Fedora rel2 and they pick up the adsl connection OK. Is there are way I can copy the config or settings from Fedora and use them in a new Gentoo stage 3 install?

I've been using PPPoA for years (3) under linux. Checkout all the SpeedTouch ADSL FAQs for info. A lot of the European providers use PPPoA, and this modem is one of the most common on the market. You need to enable ATM support in the kernel.

The portions dealinog with pppd and PPPoA will apply to you, so check out the SpeedTouch FAQ for 2.6 kernels. It should tell you most of what you need to know (kernel options and ppp setup)

Can you please tell us what model of modem you are using, and whether it is USB or ethernet based.
