Hi All,
I've (finally) got xf4vnc running - the documentation is a little lacking. I have a small problem, though: speed or authorization?
If I use the vncviewer bundled with xf4vnc, the screen refresh is profoundly slow. (20 seconds to create the first screen). This is with maximum compression and lowest quality.
If I use the vncviewer bundled with tightvnc, it's quite fast, but I can't use the 'loginauth' option at the server - so there isn't any security - not good. If I turn the authorization on and try to connect with tightvnc, I get:
VNC server supports protocol version 3.130 (viewer 3.3)
VNC connection failed: VNC authentication disabled, please use an RFB 3.130 compatible viewer
Anyone have a suggestion for getting tightvnc to talk to xf4vnc?
Thanks! |

I couldnt get the "loginauth" option to work, however I did have success with the other route of authentication, namely the rgbauth password file.
I added:
Option "rfbauth" "/root/.vnc/passwd"
to the Device section of the xorg.conf/XFree86 config file and then ran:
# storepasswd myPassWord /root/.vnc/passwd
After that, the xf4vnc module asks for the password myPassWord upon connect. Works for me.
I believe authlogin is supposed to be able to log in any user with an account on the system, but I had no luck with it. I kept getting the same error.
I also noticed that only tightvnc can connect to my server, no luck with realvnc.
Regards.
