With the exact same kernels and configurations, my LG drive will not show up on my main box, but it will on my other and it'll burn fine. I'm using 2.6.7-Redeeman2 on both of the boxes, and the hardware is as follows.
Main box (not working):
AthlonXP 2500+
ASUS A7V600 (VIA KT600 chipset)
60GB Hard Drive (hda)
LG Drive 4040B (hdc)
120GB Hard Drive (hdd)
Secondary box:
AthlonXP 2000+
ASUS A7V8X (VIA KT400 Chipset)
60GB Hard Drive (hda)
LG Drive 4040B (hdc)
I think it may have something to do with the 120GB Hard Drive. I've got the ide-cd module compiled into the kernel with no SCSI support on either computer. Can someone tell me how to get this drive working on my main box? I'm trying to sell the other one to a friend.
Thanks. _________________ I was a Gangster for Capitalism, by Major General Smedley Butler.

Does the drive show up in BIOS? I had Problems with my SiS735 motherboard, and had to change the drives from primary to secondary and from master to slave until I got it working and all drives where recognized correctly. |

Oh, the BIOS recognises it. And hell, I even see a glimpse of it in my bootup messages. But it just DOESN'T show up either as /dev/hdc or /dev/cdroms/cdrom0 or... anything similar, anywhere. _________________ I was a Gangster for Capitalism, by Major General Smedley Butler.

Could you please post your bootup log (maybe only the interesting part). Are you using devfs or udev. What versions of hotplug and udev (if any) have you installed. |

How do I get my bootup log? I still use DevFS, because uDev is still too experimental for my taste. No Hotplug because I don't have any USB devices aside from my mouse and it's not like I'm going to start throwing in PCI cards with the thing still on. _________________ I was a Gangster for Capitalism, by Major General Smedley Butler.

I must say I have no clue whats going on with your cd-drive. Maybe it would help if you post your /etc/devfsd.conf and the output of dmesg (right after startup). Please recheck also that your master/slave jumpers at all your drives are set correctly. |
