|
|
I want to install Gentoo( first timer) and It didn't detect my NIC and I have to install a driver for it, I've tried to install the <pcnet32> package but I get an error,What should I do ?
The NIC is an INTEL 21143 Based PCI FAST ETHERNET,
could you maybe specify what driver do I need or where could I obtain more info related to this problem
Thanks ! |

just an idea: have you checked if there is a precompiled module for this nic available? if the nic is supported by the (gentoo) kernel, then there usually is a module available.
another option is do boot the install-cd with the option "cdcache", then you can remove the cd after booting and enter another with a precompiled kernel module (that hopefully is available on the net, from the vendor or you can probably compile it on another machine)
PS: posting "lspci -v" for the nic would help to figure out what it exactly is

"PCnet(tm)" is the AMD 79C97x family of network controller chips, so pcnet32 is totally wrong for Intel controllers. You need the e100 driver. |
