Hi.
I editted my xorg.conf file to try and set up mu ATI card.
Now when i boot, it goes through all the boot, then when it trys to start the gnome log in screen, my monitor goes into standby mode.
I made a back up of the exsisting xorg.conf.
My question is, how can i get to the command line during boot, you know, like you press F8 when windows is booting some get some booting options so that i can switch to my back up xorg.conf file??
Thanks much. |

Try Ctrl + Alt + F1. Failing that try to SSH to it from another machine (if you have one handy) and run '/etc/init.d/xdm stop' |

Append the kernel command line parameter to the grub command line when booting (press the e key on the entry corresponding to your kernel). You'll get a root shell. When in it, either restore your xorg.conf file, or run to stop X from being started on normal bootup. Then reboot.
If you want X back at boot time, run Code: | rc-update add xdm default |
Edit: Er, try Celtis' solution first, of course... I have a knack for overcomplications Only do it as I stated above if the other solution fails. _________________ Military Commissions Act of 2006: http://tinyurl.com/jrcto
